SB 282, a bill that would extend KidCare coverage to legally residing immigrant children, passed by a vote of 7-2 after being heard by the Senate Health Policy Committee. It’s an encouraging step in the right direction for the approximately 25,000 children who currently have to wait 5 years before they are allowed access to Florida KidCare. The House companion bill (HB 7), sponsored by Rep. Jose Felix Diaz, R-Miami, next comes up in the House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee, but hasn’t been placed on the agenda yet.
